23 votives burn 23 tea light candles each flame burns for 4 hours. It takes 1 full minute to load and light 23 candles.—
“There is not enough time in the day.” A trope that has always resonated with me deeply.  In fact, those who know me in the slightest, know how important
“On time” is to me.  It is for me the most telling quality in a person. While in the past I would hold my breath and bite down my scorpion tongue at even one second late, recently stern clarity and conviction has been my suit.—
We start each day of our lives with a deficit, nearly 4 missing minutes. A Sidereal Day: 23 hours 56 minutes 4.091 seconds.  I was fifteen years old when I became aware of these missing minutes; my algebra teacher Mr. Saxton, explaining to me after relentless questioning of the absurdity of a “leap year.” — “We round up!” He said, 24hours in a day. Every 4 years we collect enough missing minutes to add up to an entire day.” I believe it was In the torment of that moment, of what seemed to me devastation,  I decided to beat the clock. — a young man with such ambition and drive and determination to execute every little idea that crossed his over active mind .—
“ I won’t eat.”
I won’t sleep.” “I’ll stay late. I’ll see every sunrise.”—
My time is more precious to me than anything else.  While often viewed as an intangible theoretical concept, it is anything but. Time can be transformed into the most beautiful and most tangible objects. It is the poem and the novel and the portrait and the statue. The perfect béchamel.
My contempt for lateness is not to be labeled impatience. You see, I start each day 4 minutes behind in world set up on a false clock. —I will not concede one more second to anyone. —
Each leap year on the fictional day of February 29th, I spend the day making something. I take back my minuets and seconds and I turn them into an object, that at very least, for me, transcends a daily assault.
