a work table
byJasonKoharik 2010

Nearly fifteen years ago I made this table out of scrap wood with my brother Jonny. I believe it started its life in Venice as an outdoor picnic table and made its way to Echo Park fast becoming a work surface in my then garage shop. Clamps, vices, nails screws, saw blades, staple guns and Chardonnay. All of the “target” paintings I made in those days were painted here. It has been dragged from studio to studio. It has spent recent years as my “homeschool” teaching painters palette, as well as dragged outside for plaster sculptures and staining wood.
It has seen fire from the soldering torch and I am certain there is as much blood as paint in its grain. As sad as I maybe to see it go, I believe it’s time we part ways.
I wouldn’t set a newborn baby on it. And I recommend against using it while wearing your finest silk gown—somehow there is always wet paint no matter how long it sits in the sun.
If you look hard enough you’ll find some phone numbers written or etched, one I varnished over… Alas, no need for this notation,
I know it by heart ♥️💥.
