epigram 1

In this universe we are given two gifts: the ability to love, and the ability to ask questions. Which are, at the same time, the fires that warm us and the fires that scorch us.

—it is not “us” who was special, it is I who is special to you, and in kind, you.”

60”x60” oil paint and ink on a pleated skirt- One evenings left behind memento. #onenightsstands
—Some “one nights” end up lasting years— or forever.

This piece was conceived and first attempted sometime is the winter of 1996. I was in my first and only year at Kent State university in Ohio. — With it’s famed black squires, Punk Rock legends, and student war protests.—
2D composition; Micheal Lodderestat I believe was my professor. It was grape wine coloured then … I remember wanting to make it spin… so my dad helped me take the motor out of my grandmothers records player in his basement. The epic failure I believe was the sculpture. My dad was quite a supporter of his then artist son. And equally a supporter of my ability to drink pot after pot of coffee.—He would make it for me in a Mr. Coffee coffee maker, a pinch of salt.
A grown man the age I am now, awake with a boy that never slept. A boy who never stopped moving, stopped making, stopped conceiving.
— It still doesn’t spin Dad, but I’ll call it finished.
