Andiron incense burning bowls.
byJasonKoahrik 2024
Evoked by the charmers of snakes — born into caste. A practice traditionally passed father to son; these andirons warmed by the heat of the flames in a fireplace are used as incense bowls. Add scented chosen oil and herb, they emit a fragrance in your home— A baptism. A christening. A cleansing.
I have been for the greater part of my life a practitioner of Ritual. Of Charm. There is a quiet intention behind all of what I am doing, certainly designing. But in my day to day; the simple things. The to myself words repeated when I peel an orange or make my bed. Or place my hand upon my son’s head. A fever. My rising prayer.
The dredging of a confidential dust at my doorstep when I cross its threshold each day. I am in fact surrounded by candles I have made, with oils I have extracted, from flora I have grown. A Studio filled with copal and clove. Sage, saffron and myrrh. Smoke. Bathes of tea and salts — and homemade brandy. Upon the deepest of inspection, the studio is a world of small transmutations. Inconspicuous alchemies. The shedding of skin over and over . Cloches of ash, once love letters. Written words and sigils on souls of shoes and backs of mirrors. Each with the best of intentions— a practice of presence. Of prayer.
Charmed, I am sure.
