Partner’s desk lAMP

By now it maybe known that most of my design truly comes from a story of my life’s journey. Evoked in a moment from the inside out. This particular lamp’s story was designed quietly, originally with no intention for resale.—
I made it to sit (hardwired) atop a
“Partner’s desk”. It originally was wired with two touch switches requiring two hands touching it to turn it on. (A wiring achievement I am very proud of.)
The desk I designed & handmade in 2018, as a conceptual gift of sorts. I placed it in the loft portion of my studio next to my bed. Both the desk & the lamp were one of a kind pieces.
The desk is made in white oak. A clever staining I’ll keep veiled, in case I am ever moved to do it again.
It was designed so the two “partners” would sit adjacent yet opposite one another.
—Left eyes aligning—Heart to Heart. —
There is a single “shared” drawer that passes from one side to the other. Within the drawer a gliding box, small enough to hold secret messages and treasures that could be passed between the two. Each side of the drawer is lined with a blush pink suede & its compartment contains a
#2 pencil, a single mole skin sketchbook (black), a cut crystal wine glass, & a match book from a favorite haunt.
During a casual meeting of minds
and/or hearts, I offered the unknowing recipient of said desk an invitation to: “Come upstairs,”
“I want to show you something.”
In that moment, the invitation was declined.
In 2020 or so I disassembled the desk to make room for other nonsenses. I placed it in my storage unit under the 2fwy. And there it sat in dust.
Recently & gratefully I have fully moved out of all storages in my life.
So much of what was in there was donated to the vagabond gentlemen stewards of tented Pallet Cities on the nearby peripheral streets.
But the desk & the lamp made their way back to my studio.
A recent visitor noticed the lamp on my shelf and asked about it. They suffered, partially, the sentimental story.
In their interest, I decided to make a few more of the lamps. Mostly giving me an opportunity to offer light where perhaps darkness may exist.
As for the desk…
That remains once.
