epigram 2

A momentary love story.
Oh these unusual Los Angeles rain storms.
The Rosebowl Flee Market. I have been attending for twenty years now. I am usually parked by 430am.
Recently, they require an online digital download, phone application, scannable QR bar code, for a purchased entry.—
Gone are the days of fingerless glove transactions—the grey green tender bill for the dust rose parchment wolf ticket. —Appalling.
—There goes the neighborhood.—
December 2022, the week before Christmas. Vendors generally look forward to this day, though the morning deluge and 50mph wind gusts kept most everyone away.
Ahh but for this beauty. Staring longingly at a ceramic bowl barely worth its mention. She wore a mink stole with a matching hat. Her long blue black coat— a color; I believe to be called majolica— covered her riding boots. Rings over leather driving gloves. I could see moments of her silver hair in braids along her ears beneath the fur of her hat. She was perfectly together, an assemblage that must have started by at least 2 am.
This will be a forever love I suspected, as I raised my 1930s silver and ebony handled parasol above her perfect crowned head.
And in the very same moment our eyes locked and her smile nearly completed—(solidifying me in chivalry.)—
The wind took my silken shield all the way apart.
“Quite the gentleman.” She smiled, as she walked boldly into the storm.
“I will see you in another life, when we are both cats.” I wish I had shouted.
Though, even at her age, I expect she had probably seen that film. This is after all Hollywood.
ASUNDER- a story of tethered souls.
